The Thief of Bagdad

  • Venue: Hull Truck 50 Ferensway Hull, England, HU2 8LB United Kingdom (map)

Douglas Fairbanks stars alongside a cast of thousands in this spectacular Arabian Nights fantasy-adventure.

The Film

Fairbanks plays a pickpocket who falls in love with the Caliph of Bagdad’s daughter. The Caliph will give her hand to the suitor that brings back the rarest of treasures. The quest grows more fantastic with every thrill, as the thief rises high above the city on a magic carpet, and battles a fire-breathing dragon.

Designer William Cameron Menzies (who would go on to design MGM’s Gone With the Wind) creates a magical world on a scale to rival the biggest films of today. At the heart of the film is Douglas Fairbanks—the first Hollywood action star, doing all his own stunts and combining grace and toughness in his flamboyant screen persona.

The Music

Hull Truck regular Jonny Best will accompany the film at the piano, bringing to life the exotic and exciting world of this truly epic adventure.
