Waxworks at Lancaster Jazz Festival

Following last year’s collaboration on Nosferatu at Morecambe Winter Gardens, Morecambe’s Off the Rails Creative Jazz Orchestra is working with YSFF Artistic Director Jonny Best on a live soundtrack project for Lancaster Jazz Festival.

This time they’re scoring Paul Leni’s 1924 Waxworks—a triptych of short films which imagines episodes from the lives of The Caliph of Bahgdad, Ivan the Terrible and Jack the Ripper. Beginning with an Arabian Nights-style tale, Waxworks descends into perverse horror and expressionist nightmare.

Off the Rails Creative Jazz Orchestra has been gathering musicians from Lancaster, Morecambe and beyond to make exploratory music with soul since 1997.

Waxworks is part of Lancaster Jazz Festival and takes place on Sunday 11 September at The Dukes, Lancaster. Full details on the Jazz Festival website.
